What do residential, hosting, VPN and proxy labels mean?

These labels describe network uses or connection methods identified by a source. Labels can overlap or become outdated. A label alone cannot establish fraud, IP safety or guaranteed access to a service.

Why can one IP have several labels?

Network use and connection method are different dimensions. A VPN exit can operate on a hosting network; a proxy can use a residential connection. MaxMind supplies separate fields for anonymous VPNs, hosting providers, public proxies and Tor exits. Different data products may use different definitions.

Does no match mean there is no proxy?

No. It means that source supplied no matching label for that lookup. Coverage, detection methods and update times limit the conclusion. IPZOR distinguishes missing sources, failed requests and returned labels so that unknown evidence is not presented as a negative finding.

How do labels relate to actual access?

Check the source and time, then test the relevant service on your current connection. A database label provides context; a browser request provides a session observation. Neither replaces the other. A website may also consider the account, browser, subscription and its own policies. A claimed IP quality score needs a stated method and cannot guarantee account safety or access.
